Explanation

• The best example of ancient India’s advancement was the University of Nalanda. It was famous for its ‘Schools of Discussion”, as noted by the students who had their own hostels. King Balaputradeva of the Sailendra dynasty constructed a temple for the students of Java, who came to study at Nalanda.

• Sanskrit was the lingua franca of the educated upper castes, as well as the Hindu rulers and courtiers. Most of the Buddhist canonical writings are in Prakrit and Pali, though some Sanskrit literature was also in circulation. Apabhramsha was used by the Jain writers in Gujarat and Rajasthan for the composition of poetry.
