Reasons for the launch of the Quit India Movement include:

• Failure of the Cripps Mission.

• Popular discontent because of the rising prices and war time shortages.

• The news of Allied reverses and British withdrawals from South East Asia and Burma, and trains bringing wounded soldiers from Assam Burma border confirmed this feeling.

• British had evacuated white residents and generally left subject people to their fate.

• To make people ready for a possible Japanese aggression, it was necessary to draw them out of the demoralised state of their mind.

Simon Commission came in the year 1928, much before the Quit India Movement.

The 2nd World War began in 1939, in which British made India participate without seeking permission. This event also occurred much before the Quit India Movement of 1942.
