The Government of India set up the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) on 1st March 2002 under the provisions of the Energy Conservation Act, 2001. Some of the schemes/programmes implemented by BEE include:

Standards and Labeling Programme: Targets display of energy performance labels on high energy end use equipment & appliances and lays down minimum energy performance standards.

Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC): Aims to benefit the occupants and the environment by promoting energy efficiency in design and construction of homes, apartments and townships.

Perform Achieve and Trade (PAT): Reduce energy consumption and promote enhanced energy efficiency among specific energy intensive industries in the country.

The Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) is a Super-Energy Service Company (ESCO), promoted by the Ministry of Power, Government of India as a joint venture of four reputed public-sector undertakings. Some of the schemes implemented by EESL include:

UJALA Scheme: Distribution of LED bulbs at subsidised prices.

Street Light National Programme (SNLP): Replace conventional street lights with energy efficient LED lights.

Atal Jyoti Yojana (AJAY): Seeks to illuminate dark regions across five states through solar power.
