  • The Sikhs revolted under the leadership of Banda Bahadur, during the reign of Bahadur Shah, who was the successor of Aurangzeb.
  • Bahadur Shah tried to conciliate with the rebellious Sikhs by making peace with Guru Gobind Singh and giving him a high mansab. But after the latter’s death, the Sikhs once again raised the banner of revolt in Punjab under the leadership of Banda Bahadur.
  • Bahadur Shah took strong measures and himself led a campaign against the rebels. He succeeded in capturing the Lohagarh fort, but it was recaptured by Sikhs in 1712.
  • Jahandar Shah was the successor of Bahadur Shah. Under his reign the administration was virtually under Zulfiqar Khan, his wazir. Zulfiqar Khan rapidly reversed the policies of Aurangzeb by abolishing Jaziya. Jai of Amer was given the title of Mirza Raja Sawai and appointed the Governor of Malwa.
  • Nadir Shah, the ruler of Persia, descended upon the plains of northern India in 1738. He met the Mughal army at Karnal in 1739 and defeated them. The then Emperor Muhammad Shah was taken a prisoner and Nadir Shah marched to Delhi. Nadir Shah took away the famous Koh-i-Noor diamond and the jewel studded Peacock Throne of Shahjahan.
