Explanation

• For the Congress session to be held at Tripuri, Bose won against Pattabhi Sitaramayya, who was supported by Gandhiji, Rajendra Prasad, J.B. Kriplani and other Gandhians. Gandhiji accepted that the defeat of Pattabhi Sitaramayya was his own defeat. Yet, Bose did not resign. • After the election, Govind Vallabh Pant moved a resolution at the Tripuri session, expressing full confidence in the old Working Committee. The resolution asked Subhas to nominate his Working Committee in accordance with the wishes of Gandhiji. Although Gandhiji did not wish to impose a Working Committee to Subhash, Bose, refused to take up the challenge. • Although Nehru tried to mediate between Bose and Gandhi, but both of them did not move from their stand, thereby resulting in the resignation of Bose. He did not receive support from CSP or CPI, as they thought, that in difficult time; unity was the need of the hour.
