  • Consumers: These are heterotrophic organisms of the biospheric ecosystem, which include animals including man, which are further divided into primary consumers or herbivores, secondary consumers or carnivores and omnivores.
  • Decomposers: These are micro-organisms living in the soil which decompose and consume dead plants and animals, and are also called the detrivores.
  • Hologenic: Hologenic animals are those which take their food through their mouth, such as big animals. Examples - elephants, cows, camels etc.
  • Parasites: These are those animals which depend on other animals for their food and life.
  • Saprophytes: These are those animals which live on organic compounds in solutions form derived from dead plants and animals.
  • Primary producers: These plants are primary producers, because they produce their food themselves through the process of photosynthesis. Primary producers are also called autotrophs or phototrophs.
